Canal Historia (History Channel Spain) commissioned us to make the opening title sequence for their upcoming original 6 episodes docuseries “Al Ándalus – El Legado”. They gave us freedom to create, they wanted us to play with some of the most important legacy the Andalusí left us in modern way. Science, architecture, medicine, engineering are only a few of the wisdoms we got from the heritage of Al-Ándalus.
After some research, we found the Astrolabe: an instrument used to make astronomical measurements, typically of the altitudes of celestial bodies, and in navigation for calculating latitude. We believe it is an interesting tool that we could use to combine all ideas.
Inside the astrolabe, we slowly introduced more of the Al-Ándalus legacy: Arabic Arches, the iconic colorful Tiles and Plants for medical use.
As the sequence develops find out that all the elements seen before are just part of the logo, revealing the title in old corroded gold and adorned by some ornaments but with a modern typeface we designed to balance the old with the new.
